Betty Jackson

Betty Jackson, CBE is an English fashion designer based in London, England. She was born in Lancashire. In 2007, her success in British fashion was recognised with first an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 1987 and later with a CBE for "services to the fashion industry."

Betty Jackson was in what she called 'workwear' mode, with military-look jackets with 'battle-dress' pockets; baggy, drop-crotch trousers; and oversized T-shirts and tops, accessorized with chunky clogs, stack-heel booties and sling-back brogues at London Fashion Week. Peasant scarves added to the workaday feel. Lightweight denim was used for long, over-shirts and loose tunics, worn with skinny jeans, or, conversely, black leather crop-tops, with long, ovoid-shaped skirts. Leather bra-bodices were fastened over printed shirts. Khaki coats and capes featured practical pockets and tab-fastened details and the military touch was also seen in multi-pocketed, loose waistcoats, cropped above the waist. The utilitarian feel of the collection was sparked-up with loose T-tops, wrap-skirts, trousers, in gold, silky jersey, and a dull, beaten gold silk taffeta (Fashion Telegraph, 2010).

Oh she was, you know, we met very briefly at a cocktail party and she was really quite ill, it was only about three weeks before she died. But I just love her work, really.

He’s quite, I mean I always think he has a great eye. He likes beautiful things, he’s always liked beautiful things. I mean he’s, I think he looks probably quite classic in the way he looks, but that’s just sort of him and he’s rather French and parts of him are very conservative. But he’s not frightened of colour at all and he’s you know, he’s Mediterranean so he’s used to all, he’s used to clothes being fairly important as well, he’s used to people making statements about the way they look, because that’s part of the French culture.
