The Moving Body: Lisa Tomasetti

- Dressed in leotards, tutus, and satin point shoes, her subjects gracefully pose in a variety of classic ballet positions including the grand jet and the arabesque penche. Tomasetti places the dancers in the most unexpected environments, and, as they achieve splits in mid air and delicately balance on one toe, viewers experience a visual juxtaposition of classic elegance and refinement, set in front of the roughness of street corners, subway stations, and bustling shopping districts.

- I like this series of photographs by Tomasetti because of how out of place the ballerina's look yet how comfortable and confident they still look. I want the character in my film to hold the same personality shown well to the audience.

- The fact that nearly all of the people in the shot have not noticed or paid attention to the ballerina doing something out of the ordinary

- It has given me the idea that in cities, it is almost like you are invisible because no one pays attention to anything or is surprised at anything out of the ordinary. This can be seen as a positive or a negative depending on how it can be presented in my film. Negatively, it could be seen as lonely or as if no one cares. But I want to emphasise the idea that it is way more fun to go through life not caring what people think, as if you are invisible.

- However if you took these photos in a small village, the reaction of the public would be very different.

- The costume is a large part of this photo, with the white tutu very clean, perfect and stunning on the ballerina in comparison to everyone else just in work suits.

- Similar to Choy, I like the contrast of the character within the public space. It relates to The Moving Body as it is using the common normal movement of dancing but put into a different setting where it would be seen as weird and out of place which I really like the effect of.
